Racing for Liah....... Nico and a few of his close friends are taking on the IRONMAN in loving memory of Liah van der Merwe. Liah was our little girl: soft, gentle and the cutest little thing. She was quiet by nature, but her personality lit up every room. At just 2 years and 5 months old, she drowned in our swimming pool. It was a silent drowning, and it happened while we were close by. Our lives, and the lives of her big brothers Enje and Zander, were shattered. Drowning is silent and fast, and it can happen to any family. That is why water safety is so close to our hearts. We are racing to help more children learn to swim, and to support parents who are walking the long and often lonely road of losing a child.
